i hate you and your stupid poems.

they aren't deep or angsty: they're manufactured, plastic tasting, FAKE-ANGST so that you can pretend to have problems so you feel like a quote unquote teenager.

just suck it up. you live a nice happy life. deal. you don't need 'issues' to have friends.

I can't believe someone would post something this harsh. Here people are trying to gain acceptance and you're just SHOOTING THEM DOWN.

Thanks a lot anonymous.

Jesus, where do we get these people.

Mmmm, I hope this post is about me.

Also, Dr. A, I think PChis was being insincere :D

Let me write
a poem about my angst
angst angst
angst.

DAMMIT THAT WAS MY IDEA FOR A POEM AND NOW YOU HAVE RUINED IT.

Dr. A deleted his comment? The coward.

Dr.A said...

sorry. i am a coward.

I think if this poster is being serious then he is stupid. But if it's written about me I don't care, and if it's written about anyone else here I really don't think they should care either.

If you hate poetry, don't read it.

I'd tend to agree with the original poster. You dumbasses with cookie-cutter poetry need to chill it out for the rest of us.

^what? how does what people post affect you

The fact that anyone could have the courage to post their work online (anonymously or not) should give them immunity to pointless flames. When you post something better then you can complain.

people need an outlet. if poetry works they supafly rite?

The o.p. didn't name names, why assume the post is intended for tangsters?

To the refined gentlemen that disapprove of our humble "cookie cutter" poetry, I really am sorry that the work posted here pales in comparison to your majestic and breathtaking brilliance in a field we poor novices have insulted with our naivety. I beg of you please enlighten a poor "dumbass". Surely with your credentials you can benefit all here unfit for your eyes and impeccable taste in good poetry. If only my apathy to your opinion would outweigh your intolerant audacity...Then again I am not attempting to offend you gentlemen; however I would out of sheer curiosity ask you how the work here could be improved.

Infuckinspire me.

This is the OP.

In response to maverick and the anonymous who suggested that the post was not aimed at tangsters:

Firstly, maverick you can calm yourself down. i thought this was an anonymous deal for anonymous comments which are not necessarily aimed at other tangst posters.
(Correct me if i'm wrong here)

..I think the fact that you took this so personally speaks for the possibility that you find your own poetry trite.

I'm audacious out of frustration and you are ...chivalrously sarcastic? hmm.

But i'll hold further complaints until i post something better.

and by no means did i intend to offend the entire poetry-posting community of tangst

Dr.A said...

True, true, we overreacted.
But then set the record straight -- just who were you talking about?

It was something of a vague post, and if you post it directly on tangst... certain assumptions can't help but be made.

i can respect that.

i was confessing that i am frustrated by people who write angsty poetry without having the actual angst to back it up.
more specifically- the works of a dear friend of mine. i will never have the heart to shoot them down in person, so i chose to confess it on tangst.

i don't understand why people need to make things seem worse than they are. life is precious, i get pissed off when people act like it isn't through retarded blank verse.

or worse-- in a rhyme scheme.
i mean stuff like.

in my darkest heart i cry
as he turns away from me
everytime he leaves, i die
but he will be the last to see.
my pain, my sorrow
a shattered tomorrow....blah blah

Well, see. If we had thought before we got defensive then this whole argument needn't have happened. I'm personally sorry and I'll ask next time.

But, to reference your point: Do people need to be sad to write sad poetry? I mean, I don't know anyone who writes without starting with that emotional situation, but I don't know if I agree with the sentiment that you need to have "actual angst to back it up." If someone wants to write poetry of any kind, I say let them, regardless of their actual emotional state.

But bad poetry like that, there's no excuse to write it in general. :) Joke.

Sir, I apologize for the hasty judgement. You were right in that I acted personally, though not for myself, but for those that post versed work on the site. I previously made a post in earlier but apparently it did not post. Regardless, I based my previous post on the assumption that others may have made as well which was that you were targeting posters on this site. You have clarrified that you are not, and even if you did youd have all the right to, but would still invoke my disapproval (which is not too impressive if one looks to the cosmic sense of it).

As far as your friend, I can only hope he finds those who can write beautifully, or finds a better life. Either will suffice.

now it's anonymous2, or

"I'd tend to agree with the original poster. You dumbasses with cookie-cutter poetry need to chill it out for the rest of us."

that was the one that misinterpreted it and flamed everyone who's ever posted poetry on this site.

way to make me look bad, #2.

jk jk.

i suppose it isn't necessary for poetry to be based on your own personal feelings or experiences.

but at the tender age of ...er...rougly 16?lets say...
does the average person have the emotional breadth of experience to project a feeling into a poem(or prose?)on a subject/circumstance that they have never experienced? and do it well enough that it will excite a substantial response from a reader? any response other than an incredulous snort?

so in response: i feel that if someone is going to write sad poetry that will ring true as sad, then they must have, at some point, have been TRULY sad.

just like if someones going to write something angsty, you need angst. why make it up anyway? whats the point
