You can't help but immitate those around you and be shaped by their personalities and opinions. Favorite movies, favorite foods, tone of voice, and even how you interact socially (although they seem like they should be unique and personal) are really just a sum of all the interactions you've had with others and your environment. The important part is to notice this give and take and surround yourself with people you emulate and respect and situations you feel comfortable in.
Maybe I can't help but do that, but I'm sure there are people who can.
