It's pretty much a shock for sure.
Hopefully it woudln't change their opinion too much. However... who knows with people as they are nowadays. If you're happy and safe then they should be happy for you.
Besides, if you're happy and safe, then why should you care what they think either way.

I don't recommend telling your friends. It's my experience that even if people say they're fine with whatever you tell them, some of them will hate you for "living a lie" to them. For a pathological liar like myself, finding out that other people lie is not a big deal. For an honest person, it's life-changing.
I've had a few people tell me huge things about their past that I had no idea about and were surprised when I really didn't mind...
It seems strange to mind about something like that, but whatever.
