From previous comments on posts:
"I hate your guts"
"You're an ignorant fuck"
"You sick fucker"

I could go on...
This sure makes me feel comfortable posting my honest opinions and feelings on here, knowing that there's a change that I'm going to get insulted. Good job, guys.

I'm sorry you've been insulted by viewing some of the content posted by visitors to the forum, I really am.

On a related note, however, I you'll notice that the vast majority of responses received by a post are constructive and/or sympathetic.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion here, that's been reiterated many times. While there are a very small portion of people who use that right to flame or make disrespectful comments, the largest contingent of visitors and commenters are courteous to one another.

I'm not going to try to defend the visitors, or comments, that you (OP) quoted, that's not my place. However, I felt I ought to take this opportunity to defend their right to express their opinion, as well as the general attitude of the community as a whole.

Why do you care if you're insulted?

a) those people are posting their "honest opinions" on here too.

b) those people don't know who you are, and you don't know who they are, so how meaningful are their insults?

My "honest opinion and feeling" is that you're being overly sensitive and worrying too much about what other people think.

I think box box and pan have basically covered it.

Hot dog! An exact minute after Long Nian, and exactly on the minute both times!

Also! (the more I read this post the more it makes me philisophically indignant)

Your personal comfort is not the interest of tangsters. The way you feel, the way you think, is not going to change. You want to tell people. Expect them not to like it. Obviously, that won't change how you feel either way. You might as well accept and deal with the fact that in real life you will have to face people who are just as insulting when your views come to light. Tangst is a microcosm of said real life environment.

Of course, the logical response is "but I don't -have to- put up with being insulted on Tangst." To which I respond, "Correct answer."

I hope you can get past your "discomfort" and still wish to post. If you don't, though, no one will know you're gone. It's the joys of anonymity. It's no skin off our noses.

I also am sorry you feel that way, OP, however as Long Nian said, I am sure the amount of constructive posts far outweighs the posts you mentioned. If you post a secret or love or fear etc.. then you chose to brave yourself against grace of good and burden of bad. heh. If you still feel targeted by nasty comments, then just remeber "sticks and stones...."

We'll take you seriously.

Think about the people that post those sorts of comments. They have their own secret feelings; they have their own loves and fears -- and that's why they make such rude, unfeeling, and unnecessary comments.

But they are people too. By and large the main reason they do that is because they feel insecure as well - so it's no reason to feel insecure yourself.
