why are people on Tangst so negative and condescending? i think people who post on here are generally looking for some source of comfort. why must there be so much rudeness?

just wondering.

I think it depends. I like to think that I am often at least somewhat comforting. Pchis and Tinted, however...

And of course, it is easy to be rude and unhelpful behind the veil of anonymity.

And rashi is oh so modest as well :-D

I agree though, about the veil of anonymity.

I'm also not going to lie, it really depends on my mood, how the post is phrased, what the problem is exactly, and how other posters have responded to determine exactly how I respond.

Tangst also seems to go in cycles, with love and acceptance abounding in superfluous levels one day/month/week/whatever and then condescending remarks the next.

If you're dissatisfied with a negative comment made to a topic, post one yourself that contains a brighter or more uplifting message of empathy.

The attitudes of Tangst move at the discretion of its users, not its admins; we all contribute little pieces to the experience.

If you don't like something, change it; if you've got something to say, pitch in your two cents.

I've often compared posting something on Tangst to dipping one of your feet, anonymously, into a tank full of magical wish-granting happyfish and ravenous assholesharks. Sometimes your toe gets nibbled by the magical happyfish, like a little tickling sensation, that lifts you up and gives you the strength to go on with your day despite the overwhelming angst that had previously weighed on your soul. Other times, your anonymous appendage is ripped off by the degrading comments of one of the asshole sharks, leaving you to limp away on your bloody stump, cursing the insensitivity of your anonymous, non-professional psychologists. Or you just get slimed on by a random sea slug saying "cock."

The risk involved is what keeps us posting.

If you're putting yourself out there, it's like anything else.

You can't expect tea and cupcakes all the time. Especially if you're being a moron.

the cycles are when the girls are on their periods

thewordofrashi said...

...because every girl on Tangst has their period at EXACTLY the same time....

duh rashi, didn't you know?

it could happen, but it would be very unlikely. Roommates get on the same cycle after a while
