dear editor of chief next year for the eagle's eye.
after the whole controversial fiasco of the latest article about our principal I hope you will not be inimidated and fight for what you want and what the newspaper team wants to put in the eagle's eye. even controversial articles about the administration. since the administration doesn't think they should tell the student body what they are doing to their school, I feel like the eagle's eye is the only source of truth among the rumors that circulate the school and lets everyone know what the administration is really doing since they dont really like to tell us.
and since you've probably never had a class with mr king. I should let you know...he only cares about keeping his job. and nothing else.
goodnight and good luck.

Dear Anonymous Poster,
I suppose I can take this time to put in my two cents about what I think should go in the Eagle's Eye next year. Obviously, you know and I know that Mr. King, who plans on staying for longer than just next year, would not allow an article to come out that could possibly jeopardize his standing with administration. That being said, the Eagle's Eye, during my tenure of two years, has had no intention of keeping the truth quiet. Let me explain.
We spoke out against administrative incompetence, freshman seminar, AND mixed skill to some degree before this article even came out. Those articles weren't on the front page and weren't marketed to the school as controversial, so they were less likely to be read.
My personal philosophy as Editor-in-Chief will be writing the kind of articles that generate buzz and discussion--these articles don't necessarily have to be controversial. They just have to be read by the student body.
In summation, I don't think the amount of censorship imposed by Mr. King will be any greater than the amount given by Mrs. Krizmanich over the last two years (prior to this issue, obviously). Beyond that, I don't care what he does. He doesn't have to be my friend for us to make a good paper.
If you're tired of hearing rumors about something at enloe (i.e., it's 50 teachers leaving, no 100 teachers! etc) then email me at pri_cem@yahoo.com and we'll definitely consider it for the next paper. I want a publication that you want to read... and you'd be surprised how seriously the faculty takes student journalists.
Thanks,
Editor-in-Chief next year for The Eagle's Eye.
I'd like to write a crossfire on why only white male landowners should be allowed to vote. Haha.
haha thats excellent also write one on why instead of animal testing we should just use the homeless or war vetarens.
so was there any actual punishment for that article?
After this article and a few other incidents I've noticed a growing students rights movement growing at Enloe (a la 1970s) and it makes me smile. Keep it up Eagles eye. Other than blatant slander the administration can't punish you for any truth you print without severe repercussions from teachers and students.
^^hah, I must disagree. Mis...Doctor Cochran is very good at what she does, and that's being a bureaucrat. If she didn't like the paper there are tons of ways she could get it to stop, and seeing as how our super intendent is new he probably won't want to do drastic things that could jeapordize his standing, so complaints could fall more or less on deaf ears unless they were crazy.
so this article that has riled up so much intrest, What is it? it seems that i missed it. could someone summarize it?
^^ Cochran (or Doctor Cochtopus as we have affectionately named her) is trying to put a bunch of crappy reforms into place that teachers and students disagree with (Freshmen Seminar, combined AP-academic english classes, etc.). Her solution is to not tell anyone and to reshuffle leadership positions so her supporters are the department chairs. The Eagle's Eye (very tastefully I might add) called her out on it and the school collectively said "Holy shit, really?! If we can talk about what's going on who knows...? We might even be able to change things!!"
So...they go off and make an "I Hate Cochran" facebook group. Sadly, end of story.

There have been no immediate repercussions (i.e. suspensions, attempts to thwart newspaper distribution, scolding) with the publication of the May 2006 issue.
To all readers: thank you for all your reactions -- positive and negative -- to this edition of the Eagle's Eye. Your readership proves that newspapering is not yet obsolete; the press has a bit more ink to spill.

I agree with the article, but I feel that it was placed in the paper for the wrong reasons. It seems almost a la sensationalist-era martyrdom that brought the Cochran story to the front page, not the fact that it is a pressing issue worthy of the spot. Granted I am not in Newspaper and thus I do not know the full story (no pun intended) but in reading the article the term yellow journalism comes to mind.
Let me restate, I do agree with the article's inclusion in the paper, and I think that the issue needed to be addressed. But I sincerely hope that was the reason it was included, not because newspaper seniors wanted to go out with a bang, crucified on a cross of truth and controversy.
