2/28. 4/19. 9/1.

If you respect and revere the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C, these are just a few dates you should know.

September 4, 2004
Chechen terrorists take 1,200 staff and students hostage at School Number One in Beslan, Russia.
Hundreds wounded. 350+ dead (186 children).

April 19, 1995
Truck bomb strikes the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
800+ wounded. 168 dead (19 children).

February 28, 1993
BATF strike force raids the Branch Davidian ranch at Mt. Carmel, Texas, beginning a 51-day seige.
85 dead (27 children).

Just goes to show that time heals wounds, if but with nothing more than indifference. Does anybody on Tangst remember these? Does anyone care?

The difference is that in those instances, justice (or at least what society percieved as justice) was served. The terrorists were dealt with, McVeigh was executed and, unless I'm mistaken, the third instance (more commonly known as "Waco"?) was considered an act in the interest of justice in the first place.

Also, 9/11 was a direct terrorist attack on American soil, the largest and most deadly since the Civil War (Pearl Harbor was not as deadly to American soldiers.)

So there is a difference. With that said, I'd like you to know that I do not support the current "War on Terror" or the use of 9/11 as a justification.

Does anyone remember those? AExcept foor the recent one, most of us were like 6 or 7 when those happened. I know about them and care yes, but no, I can't remember them. I might not have even found out.

umm...did any of those involve 30000 people dying?

^ IIRC, 9/11 resulted in about 2,600 deaths, not 30,000.

To that end, the US military has lost more than a couple thousand troops between Iraq and Afghanistan fighting in battles justified by a President shamelessly hearalding the banner of 9/11. of course, that doesn't include the many many more thousands of people killed by American troops, and in conflicts concerning American troops, but those numbers just aren't glamorous when we're focused on winning the War on Terror.

On that note, the War on Terror is a piece of shit propoganda engine. It's about as sensible as the War on Drugs a couple decades ago, but nobody remembers that.
