Are the people in your town liberal or conservative (politically speaking)?? I live in a town of rich white liberal hippies and I am getting kinda sick of it even though I am mostly liberal myself. Sometimes I just wish they would shut up and stop pretending to be accepting of the rest of the world.

In the wake of Joe Lieberman losing the democratic primary in CT, I read a very interesting article, which, to make a long story short, claimed that the Democratic party is actually much less accepting of other people's ideas. That if you aren't a radical leftist, you aren't welcome.

But North Carolina is a funny state. Presidentially, we vote Republican. Likewise, both of our senators are Republicans. However, many of our representatives are Democrats, our governor is a Democrat, and Raleigh's mayor, who is fairly popular, is also a Democrat.

I would say that Raleigh on the whole leans to the right, but there is a very strong Democratic presence here.

I agree with you, though. I wish liberals would shut the hell up and stop pretending to be so open minded. Nine times out of ten, people who declare themselves to be "open minded" are hypocrites.

It's hard to classify a community's mindset - especially these days, when towns and cities have populations stretching into the hundreds of thousands. There are many different perspectives in each community, which produce many different opinions on the political ethics and views that exist in each.

From my view, Raleigh is fairly moderate, with a distinct conservative slant. However, there are plenty of liberally-minded people in the constituency of Raleigh's government who provide a pretty decent balance.

Of course, that's just from my perspective.

Compared to other Democrats across the nation, our governor and Raleigh's mayor are actually quite conservative. I just thought I would throw that in there, though I agree more with what box-box said (the statement about being fairly moderate with a conservative slant and some liberal minded people)

^Having been sponsored as a House of Representatives Page by Brad Miller--having met the guy and actually watched his voting record for the short time I was in D. C.-- those Vernon Robinson ads really piss me the hell off. I'm so glad I'll be able to vote come November.

I actually recorded one of the phone messages and I have it saved on my computer.

"Brad Miller tells illegal immigrants to burn the American flag and dance on it! Brad Miller also encourages homosexuals to bring their illegal immigrant homosexual lovers into our country! Then he throws them all a big fiesta with your tax dollars!"

I am a "strong leftist liberal type", however I'm not by any means open minded. I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong. IF you voted for Bush, you aren't even worth talking to in my opinion. After all, if we liberals just complain enough, things will change. Right?
