The whole idea of cutting makes me queasy. Don't do it. It won't get you anything but some scars, a coffin, and a cemetary plot.

(I secretly hope cutting stays popular among rich, teenage girls because it will ensure that I will always have clients once I become a psychologist)

^your sentiments echo mine, for different reasons

^ The only other reason I could think of is to keep your razor blade factory in business...

Aha! We could market designer razor blades in gloomy colors with emo sayings on them. We'll make millions!

Anon3's reason could just be because he/she hates rich teenage girls who think their problems are just oh so awful and the world is just oh so terrible to just poor little misunderstood them

i tried again today.
slightly more successful, considering i couldn't get my hands on a razor.

someone isn't an idiot because they cut.. instead of cutting (please pardon the pun) the person down for it we should be offering support

Excuse me. I admit that I was a little out of line. I guess I just can't comprehend people doing something like that to themselves. That said, I only have one true piece of advice. Don't run away from your problems by cutting. You have to confront them.

Why? Why cut? Isnt there some other sublimination possible? Why cut?

1. People can only blame themselves for cutting. You saw how the op didn't even enjoy it the first time but made the conscious decision to continue to cut herself like it was an exercise program or something. No on is forced to cut.

2. I would never marry a woman with self inflicted scars.

3. Sublimation isn't quite the correct term. Instead of replacing a socially unacceptable desire with a more acceptable action, they're washing away the pains of average teen angst in a flood of endorphins achieved in the most inefficient and self destructive way possible. If you want to feel better go to a friggin' gym, are you -that- lazy?

4. If it's because you want to prove you're in control of your body then get a tattoo (at least they can look artsy and nice). If you're in to pain I hear electric shocks work wonders, then the rest of us won't have to look at scars. And if you need attention just wear lots of eye liner and disobey your parents like every other whiny teen.

But to be a bit more sensitive, there's obviously something troubling you and we all........wait a minute... I bet people mainly cut just so they can get their parents and peers to react and to prove that the people in their lives acutually care about their well being. Well I'm not biting ma'm. Go look for your outrage and genuine concern elsewhere.

^ your parents maybe?

Well...maybe the person is trying to get help in the only way they can. I use to threaten to cut myself when my parents were fighting to get them to stop-this was when I was like 8...

I was a cutter.

It's a physical manifestation of emotional pain.
For me, it was punishment for imperfection, as well. Instead of torturing myself mentally about it, I could quit thinking and just torture myself physically.

OP, you'll come through.
Whoever you are, whoever I am, I'm here for you.

I'm with the person above me.

It's surprising how many people out there that have tried the cutting thing, myself included. It's satisfying, in a sick and twisted sense. You'll get through it, and I'll think of you. Whoever you are.
