i have this weird respect for prostitutes. i find they seem somehow noble, like they have transcended the morality needed by the rest of us in order to do what they do. it's like they don't need us, with our artificial social taboos. i am fascinated by this concept.

One day you'll become Sparkles, that Vegas hooker with the heart of gold who stops those awful bank robbers from...etc, etc.

Ah, the intersting interplay between individual morality and social convention. Of course we always love a rebel (especially a rebel who will have sex with us for money).

Somehow I think not all of them are making an articulated yet silent mora stand against the stereotypes and walls of society.

I generally think of prostitutes as people stuck in an abominable hole because they either need the money or it's the way they can make the most money with their education. Not to say that they aren't happy ones, but I'd hardly count any of them as social revolutionaries.

Funny thing is, in many parts of Europe, Holland in particular, prostitution has become a legitimate occupation. Apparently there are government examinations, abide by certain rules and standards, and carry a prostitution license. Needless to say, if you have an STD you lose your license....

oh yes yes legalized prostitution is something different. I was thinking in the US terms of the illegal street hooker/whore kind of prostitution.

I'm sure there are problems with all systems, but my above comment was pretty much aimed at the latter sort.
