A ball of clay
Violet, with gentle thumb prints
Pressed by loving fingers.
Warm hands soften clay
Giving shape
Many colors
Multiple forms
Twisting together, shapes
Not just twisting, objects
An exercise in craft, love
A dim lamp
The light cuts through the dark, Scattering dust
Into their air-born dance
A human face in the clay
With loving thumbprints
On the mouth
On the eyes
Carefully molded
Enamored with its form

With all due respect, shouldn't this be posted on the poetry/literature section of Tangst?

No, anything can be posted on Tangst. We'd just prefer lit things to go to the lit site.

Mmhmm, plus, poetry that comes to Tangst gets mirrored over to Poetry & Prose. So really, posting here just gets that much more exposure and potential for response.

Regardless, OP, I like how the poem flows and forms.

That said, I'm not a poetry critic like TF or Maverick ;-)

When you think about it, English is such a non-poetic language, in comparison to most other languages (except German and Russian).

That said, good job. Very interesting word choice

What are you talking about? English is an extremely poetic language. It takes things from a lot of different places, so we have billions of synonyms all with a slightly different connotation, allowing you many different sounds for the same word and the ability to pin down your feeling almost exactly.

Besides there's no challenge in trying to rhyme in Italian. Everything rhymes already.

This poem doesn't rhyme...

To sum up: If you're rhyming your poetry, English+German+Russian (although I might debate that)=not a good choice

If you're not rhyming your poetry, English=pwns.

Yes, but English is based in large part on German (with a lot of French/Latin). This leads to a number of sounds which are highly dischordant. Not that there is not beautiful poetry written in English, it's just that it's much harder.
