I never really understood why everyone always said junior year was a bitch.
41 weeks later I finally realize what everyone was talking about.
Why the hell would he assign a DBQ worth three test grades that's due TWO DAYS before the AP exam?!

Fuck this shit, yo.

at least you guys knew when this paper was due before YESTERDAY which is when i found out.
but yes, i agree, this sucks butt. however, at least it's a good topic. you can basically just write whatever you feel like. i'm prob not even using that many actual facts. yay BS :)

Dr. Hoffman is not a douchebag. This paper has been assigned for weeks, and besides, he knows that nobody will start working on it till the night before anyway--year after year of students have proved him right in that assumption. I'm only starting on mine tonight, and it sounds like the OP and the first two posters are, too. He's not a douche to be a teacher assigning a paper, that's what he's paid to do.

And your head is up your fucking ass if you think he assigned this paper during AP week on purpose just to make your life miserable. Dr. Hoffman has better things to do than entertain himself by torturing you, believe it or not. If anything, this paper is better preparation for your AP history exam than you'll get from any Princeton Review. So do the honorable thing: suck it up, write a passable paper, and don't blame the teacher for your problems.

no its not an excuse. assigning a paper and making it due in the middle of AP exams IS the worst thing a teacher can do to a student. ESPECIALLY if he knows people aren't going to start doing it till the night before.

And he should also know that his students aren't ONLY taking his exam. they take other ones as well. like the calc exam tomorrow. and if you had an exam monday and tuesday (like I did) you've spent the last two weekends studying for those because they come first. and then tonight...you had to write your DBQ thats worth three tests grades or try to get a good grade on the test you spent 85 dollars for.

IT is douche and he could of allowed for extensions. I've had an exam every single day this week except thursday and the reason why I have not started my paper until tonight is literally because I do not have time. not because I procrastinated. and I know I do not need to know the civil rights movement that in depth. acutally...all I need to know about the civil rights movement is in the Princeton review guide. that is what it is for. people read that and get 5's. making us write a DBQ about something he has not even taught is not the way to prepare us for the AP exam.

letting us study by not giving us homework is the way to prepare. because...there are going to be like maybe one or two questions about the civil rights in that test.

I actually just finished my paper and it's not even that great (5 Pages... Ihhh) I mean, I outlined it yesterday to the best of my ability but COME ON. I had my English final today, that fucking paper due tomorrow that I don't give a shit about (though I did learn some funny things. Like seriously, Nation of Islam = HILARIOUS!), a math test (not final exam, not AP exam, just a TEST that I haven't had time to study for), THE AP EXAM FOR THE FUCKING CLASS I HAD TO WRITE THE PAPER FOR (Which we're thirty years behind for the exam and it's not going to help us study) then all of my exams next week (both final and AP).

I mean, I understand whining about this isn't going to do anything, but knowing that we're all united in this WTFOMGSTRESS makes me feel a little bit better.

no there are alot worse things a teacher can do to a student. Like ass rape.

Being a slacker isn't a bad choice. But if your gonna slack the accept the consequences.

IF you procrastinate it is your own damn fault. You could have just made a personal due date 2 weeks before APs and been done with it, and you have no one to blame but yourself for that fact that you didn't. Hoffman is one of the best teachers this school has got and he cares about teaching his students more than almost any teacher I've had. How many teachers can put in the effort to lecture 45 minutes EVERY DAY? Not many.

"if you have to study that much, it's a reflection on how you were an idiot and didn't pay attention during the year.

you're either insecure or an idiot and a slacker. the difference is that insecurity can be cured by self-confidence.

don't blame it on hoffman. like swalest said, you guys are just being stupid. you had weeks to do it, and you either underestimated the paper or misjudged how poorly you were prepared for your exams."

I agree wholeheartedly with all that. I make good grades on exams, and I don't have to study so much that I can't write one paper. Also, try throwing in 5 IB exams, many of which are two days. I'm nto complaining becuase it's still not that bad. Shut the hell up and learn how to manage your time.

Guys....he absolutely did this on purpose. He did the exact same thing last year.

He's giving you this DBQ right before the exam to get you ready for it. Hoffman never finishes the curriculum by the AP exam. This is his way of covering that extra material in order to get you ready for the exam.

But to reiterate: It's your own damn fault if you waited this long to do it. Last year, I had a paper from him due two days before another paper from Tisdale. I still managed to get it done. Just pace yourself and take responsibility for your mistakes.

But above all - DON'T BLAME HOFFMAN.

It's not that we never study, or that we are "perfect" (bitter are you?), but that we don't have to study SO MUCH that we dont have a few spare hours here and there over the course of MULTIPLE WEEKS to write a paper. DBQs are not that bad, I did one last year right before the AP for Hoffman too.
And if you really pay that much attention in class, and you still do HORRIBLY on exams, then maybe you should not be in AP classes, or at least consider not taking the tests. If you can't manage the workload despite trying, it's too hard for you!

"How can you criticize someone who did the exact same thing everyone has done?"
Because most of us learn from it, instead of complaining and trying to blame it on someone else.

umm. who else in here had to take 4 exams this week? and still has three next week?

ok. then shutup.

hey i know who the poster above me is comm sys?

aw, 7 ap's - poor baby. how about the students who have 8 ap's, or the ones wih 5-8 ap's who also have equal or greater number of IB exams at the same time? get over youself, take the tests, and move on.

Dear lord you guys are bitter.
Tinted is a perfectionist bastard.
Swales is a suckup.
Queen Sekaf is just a bitch.
And the OP (and everyone else) is whiney.

So yeah, how do YOU GUYS like being labled?

Oh yeah, QS, I also have trouble with taking AP exams. The class isnt too hard for me either, I'm actually doing quite well in it. I have an IEP though, so taking tests actually means studying really hard. Perhaps because I take school seriously? I mean you're criticizing someone for studying too much. But I mean, an IEP makes me stupid, right?

I hate everyone on this post.

TintedFragipan said...

^I didn't even say anything!

But I mean, what you said about me is true.

On the other hand, playing "the IEP" card like you did is just lame, man. Get over yourself.

thewordofrashi said...

Haha, but you were thinking it.

But yeah, don't attack Tinted. He hadn't even said anything yet.

The "IEP" card is very lame.

Don't hide behind it; move beyond it.

"umm. who else in here had to take 4 exams this week? and still has three next week?

um, probably everyone else in here had close that many exams or more. we do go to enloe.

And I would never criticize someone for studying too much. Knock yourself out, I admire that. I'm criticizing someone for studying too much, complaining about it, and blaming the teacher for (gasp) assigning work. If it's so awful, don't do it. That's all I'm saying.

So uh...
I now really appreciate the DBQ. There were a bunch of questions pertaining to the civil rights movment on the exam and if I hadn't freaked out about the essay I would've never gotten them right. I guess I was really stressed and didn't understand Hoffman's logic, but I do now.

Please no "I told you so"s
I think you guys are bigger than that. :D

a happy ending to a tangst post? is this even possible?
