aaaahhahahahahaha
this I have to see.
i dont get it...
It's a reference to the DADA art movement of the early 1900's, post-WWI. Marcel Duchamp signed a urinal, named it "The Fountain," and declared it art. The only thing is, he didn't sign his real name to it - he signed R. Mutt.
PS, I admire your awareness, OP. This was only done at lunch today. (Though I am not the wielder of the Sharpie, I do know about the event.)
I congratulate Enloe on its rise to artistic genius.
gotta love that art history. woohoo for ready-mades!
That was me! I am so happy that people appreciate/understand my DADAist vandalism. It is an honor to be your hero (heroine in this case) forever.
This would technically be a ready-made-assisted, actually. (Reference Mona-Lisa)
Is it bad that when I see "DADA" I think "Defense Against the Dark Arts?"
Yes.
I read about this, and I'm not amused. How stupid of you to copy someone else.
^it's not so much copying as paying tribute.
^Or poking fun at the school water quality, whatev.
It was originally intended to be a tribute to Marcel Duchamp and an inside joke with all who understand what R. Mutt is. I wasn't making any statements of my own or trying to create an original readymade-aided. It was an art history nerd joke, I'm sorry if that offends you.
But I'm pretty sure Duchamp and Tzara would be proud.
huzzah!
Yes. He called a urinal art. I can think of five reasons off the top of my head right now that a urinal is art. I see no good argument for a urinal to not be art. So shut your face.
