can i just suggest something? i feel like as the site becomes more and more popular and more of a public forum, every post is getting more comments. as a result, we have a ton of posts becoming "popular posts", when they really arent any more popular than most.

can i suggest that we increase the number of comments necessary to get on the popular posts list? atleast to like...18 or so?

just a suggestion. admins can debate that.

Just as a neutral bit of information, here are the percentages of posts per month that made popular status (16+ comments) recently:

May: 9.1% (351 total, 32 popular)**

April: 8.0% (287 total, 23 popular)

March: 5.4% (241 total, 13 popular)

** As of the posting time of this particular thread

I think OP has got a good idea. Too many not-so-great posts are becoming popular.

Some of the "problem" is also that people are posting multiple times on a thread, so it's 16+ comments, but not necessarily 16+ commenters.

Also, to address Anonymous1's comment, the not-so-great posts have been getting 20+ comments.

(Oddly enough, this is one of the things on our list of possible summer renovations.)
