Humans.
We are part animal and part devine -the soul of God forced into beastly flesh.
We cling, however, to one or the other. Some fight impossibly to be devine, and many fool themselves into thinking that they are devine, and thus with the power to condemn others.
And some do not fight at all, but rather condemn themselves by allowing no resistance to the sensual pleasures.
Most are simply caught in the battle between the two. They fight towards one and then the other, hoping to find some equilibrium.
Is any catagory wrong? We are, afterall, given the choice. There is no wrong choice, unless you go for some ultimate goal and choose a path that will not lead you to it.
It is thus in human nature to contridict itself. To fight against itself. Human nature is not a truism, it is a battle.

This post has no comments because it's stupid and not actually deep or insightful. Also, learn to spell already. Contradict? DIVINE? category? Come on.

Also the very premise is foolish in my opinion. I see nothing divine in human nature, merely a needlessly complex struggle between evolutionary ingrained urges and socially engineered morals. We're just animals who happen to think too damn much about the consequences of our actions, nothing more.

i think the op is highlighting upon the evolution vs. intelligent design controversy as well.

And god is merely an omnipotent, omniscient being that created the universe, nothing more.

I feel the thought process is indeed what separates us very much from many animals. The fact that we, at least on the surface seem, are somewhat free of our instincts.

We've created the ability to leave the world and to destroy the world many times over.

We're amazing, nothing more.

You know, I laughed when I read the comments that this post received. The first comment is completely idiotic and pointless. If the post is so stupid, why comment on it just to say that there are no comments? And about the spelling, it was rather early in the morning when I wrote it, which perhaps in your mind does not give an excuse for poor spelling and a lack of editing, but in my mind does give some leeway towards this tragic errors, as I prefer to be on time for school than to correct meaningless literary atrocities just so that someone will have one less thing to bother them today.
Ooops! I made a run-on sentence. Does that irk you too?
As far as the actual statement, anon number 2 was correct in his/her assertion that it is an OPINION. Nothing more. You obviously don't feel the same as I do. This does not make me cry at night, I assure you.
Anon number three: no I was not tryinig to make this an evolution vs. intelligent design controversy, but I do appreciate the time you took to make a comment that is actually constructive.

Oh, and if anon 1 finds more horrible mistakes in this comment (since he/she obviously has nothing else to do with his/her time but to remark upon the gramatical errors of others) then I will take this post, shove as much of it up his obviously tight ass as will fit, and then light it on fire as I watch with much glee.
Of course, this would be appealing to the animal side in me.

The OP flaming the other commentators? Interesting.. usually we find a reasoned out and calm OP response that makes the flaming anons look ignorant and cretinous. Well, congratulations on something new. And.. kinda uninteresting, but interesting enough for me to comment ;)

OP thinks a lot like I do, actually...

I like the OP.

For no other reason than he/she flamed the hell out of anonymous 1 for correcting spelling/grammar.

:-)

oooh this was a really interesting topic in psychology. monolistic vs. dualistic. humans are just animals vs. the humans are different from animals because we have a spirit.

ahh i miss psychology.

Well sure if you're into that thing, but in what way does that make us special? He made mosquitos and poop too didn't he?

"The fact that we, at least on the surface seem, are somewhat free of our instincts."

Doesn't seem that spectacular at all to me. Pigeons can be trained to postone temporary satisfaction for larger future goals too. A dog can balance a treat on his nose until you give the word for pete's sake. Our goals of social hierarchy and stability might seem more "special" in comparison, but pretty much all forms of life do it in one form or another. What's so holy about a manner of degree?

"We've created the ability to leave the world and to destroy the world many times over."

Destroy the world? At best we can alter it enough to destroy our own little niche on this tiny spinning dustball, but once the fallout settles and the last man takes his last breath the Universe will keep on spinning like it did for a trillion years before us and like it will for and infinity afterwards. What difference will you or your petty internal struggles have made?

I don't mean to sound nihilistic or depressing, I'm just sick of people pretending that humans are the holy inheritors of the universe or that the Grand Scheme gives a flying fuck.

We aren't and He doesn't. Get over yourselves.

anon7 you say some true things, and yet I believe it to be for all the wrong reasons. Sure, we have mosquitos and poop. Well, let me tell you, poop is pretty glorious, 'cause if we couldn't get rid of it... well... the human lifespan would not be very long at all. And rather smelly, at that. Yep, short and smelly. Look, I don't believe in god, or a "grand scheme" but that doesn't matter. Even if there is one. Meaning is found within the self (I wish I could run away to Tibet). I don't mean the self, as in a spirit... I mean in your noggin, in conscious or subconscious thought. Try meditation, I've been just getting into it myself, and it's not a huge "enlightening" two day jazz... but it allows you to collect yourself. And... maybe eventually, it will enrich life. I'd advise getting a book on it, since there's so much Western hokey mumbo jumbo about sitting cross-legged going "ohm" that you just can't really figure out what's right without some guidance.
