quaaaaaaaaaaad. There are people there. Grab a frisbee and/or guitar and hang out for a while, I guarantee by the end of an hour you'll attract some proto-friends.

Uhh...no, this was not posted by me. I know where to meet people in college. Generally classes, parties, the common room, and dining venues are all good choices.

Generally, I stay away from the parties, because I neither drink nor am comfortable around drunk people, but whatever.

As for the "how", usually just talking is a good idea. And generally, I find that meeting new people when you're with people you already know makes things a bit easier.

P.S. I don't hate college. I actually really like it.

You just have to introduce yourself and always think that they want to talk to you and be friends, even if they're a little awkward. More often than not people don't dislike a friendly person.

And it's my personal philosophy that it's better to have a bunch of friends and a few people that sort of dislike you because things were awkward when you first met than to not know anyone.

But yes, common rooms, parties, friends of friends, on your hall, dining places. I've just gone and sat down with people eating alone for lunch a few times and just struck up conversation when I didn't have anyone else to eat with. Only one out of four has been awkward, I think that's pretty good.
