how do you personally apologize?

I appologize by confronting the person. If possible in person, face to face, one on one. I tell them exactly how I feel, and why I am sorry. I do not expect them to "be ok with my appology" but an appology almost always helps. If confrontation cant be done in person, online is a 2nd option.
make it clear that you dont expect them to forgive you or anything. but you wanted to appologize.

I agree with anon1...except I'd say number 2 would be phone rather than online.
