When I grow up I want to be exactly like the Crazy Piano Guy that is camping out at our school. He is so carefree and funny. I wish I had that much joy in life.

He made me realize my passion. For that, I am eternally grateful. I'd love to tell him, but I feel guilty. Because he helped me realize my passion, not for music, but for literature and English. His descriptions of the way he feels about music made so much sense to me, were echoing my life so perfectly - except my thoughts are all in the context of writing and reading.

Thank you, Joel A. Martin.
Thank you.

We are talking about the artist-in-residence of Enloe High School. The man who visits the school music classes and plays Bach fugues sitting on the floor with his eyes closed; the man who sings songs about having sex in a Subaru, the man who works at Sesame Street for $400 an hour, the man who is just-plain the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

He is really awesome...

My orchestra class hasn't actually gotten to have him play in our classroom, but I walked in one day, third period, and he and his keyboard were still in the room. He was playing some random old rock and roll music from the speakers, and sort of (not exactly dancing) moving to it and air-guitaring and stuff. It made my day.

I love him too!!! He's so enthusiastic to be working with us, even though we are lowly high schoolers. I've had him in wind ensemble and in music theory, and he did totally different stuff for both classes. He seems very genuine to me, and also human. Like even though he's so amazing, it's because he practices like a bitch and loves it, not because he's god. Anyways, I've just really been anoying having him at Enloe.

In our orchestra class today he turned Brahms' Academic Festival Overture into a rap song, and it made all of us sound BETTER when we played it after that. I got to talk to him throughout the entire thing because the piano is situated right next to my stand, and he's the most amazingly sincere and sweet guy EVER. He's so funny and awesome.
I'll fight you for him, Hannah. :D

I wish he lived at enloe... FOREVER! he is so cool and just. oh gosh... he makes me so happy! (and also makes me feel so insignificantly bad at piano, but... you know, happy too)

i wish i went to Enloe so i could meet this awesome face. does he have an CD's recorded?

Yeah, he does. I looked him up on amazon, and you can go to his site to find specific CD names... but they're super cheap, limited supply... another awesome, tragic, starving artist I'm afraid.

But yeah, I think he's awesome all the same.

Actually, I'm fairly sure he's not a starving artist. He's being hired to play at a pretty big-name arts festival here, and has been around in the music business for about thirty years. And he does the soundtrack for Sesame Street, for crying out loud! He was describing how that kind of job paid (plus the, like, six trips he took to Russia last year--anyone catch that? I heard it in Symphonic band this morning when I was skipping out on independant study).

I think he's pretty well off.

And just goes to show that, yes, you can make it.

:)

Ahhh, that's very cool. He didn't mention any of those things in my Ap Music Theory class. Oh well.

Yep, it certainly is possible to make it. Just hard, and he is very talented.

But I still wonder why his CDs are... almost unprocurable through Amazon :(

man he even worked on the "celebration" song by kool and the gang..he is seriously the most incredible person i have ever met. and his hair is also awesome.

And his voice!

That's the voice I want in my head that talks me through everything.

It would make me happier. Yep.
