today was one of "thoes days" the kind you just wish would never, ever happen. not cause something bad happened. today was my first day in public school and i, yes actually i am, i am so encredably scared i could scream!!! i cant figure out how to open my locker, and i dont have time to go to it anyway, my binders for my classes take up a messanger bag and a backpack, and thats WITH OUT text books. speaking of text books i haven't really ever had them....and i dont know ANYONE who goes to school with me. really at all, i have one class with this girl i knew years and years ago, and my path crosses sometimes with people i've met... once or twice...

can ya tell i'm kinda flipping out?

that binder business is insane. combine a few, 1 two inch binder can hold at least two classes (maybe more). i have 1/2 inch binders taht take one class. just remember to clean it out ever so often. as for the time issue, once you learn how long it takes to walk to a class you'll be able to time locker visits etc. the best thing to do about friends is to open your mouth and say "hi, my name is _____" to some kid in a class. good luck

Yeah, I wish I had learned that earlier on in my high school career.

Use like a 5 subject spiral notebook and maybe another smaller one if you can, and just carry a folder around with you to hold extraneous papers and some loose leaf. You'll be much happier.

Get a back pack and divide it into sections, fuck binders completely. I just shove all my papers in different parts of my backpack.

Also just borrow other people's textbooks before class starts so you don't have to carry them around all day.

I've somewhat given up on using binders I usually use folders - so much easier, though they can get to be a bit too full.

Back to the original post, though... Don't worry too much about it. My first few weeks of middle school were hell - all of the people I knew at all were on a different team than me, the teachers were scary, I failed my first test because of misunderstood directions and freaked out (I was, and still am, a typically good student), etc. After that, though, I began to meet people and make some new friends. Things like that usually manage to work themselves out in the end; you should try not to stress over it too much just yet. Sometimes the rough transitional times provide the best opportunities for growth and new happiness.

I skipped binders after freshman year. Now I'm down to just one folder I carry with me, and a storage system of file folders at home.
Additionally: lockers are a WASTE OF TIME. Avoid yours at all costs. Crowded, difficult to open, time-consuming... you're better off just carrying what you need with you.
As for not knowing anyone, the isolation is usually aided by the fact that everyone is always interested in "the new kid." Use that to your advantage.
You will find friends, fear not.

Actually, I'd say take advantage of your locker as much as you can. Last year (junior year of hs) I figured out when I had time b/w whichever classes to go and kept the same locker schedule every day. That'll help remedy the textbook and binder problem, as it is quite horrid to have to carry two or three, maybe more textsbooks around all day.

I don't recommend folders for all subjects because they start getting full with only 20 handouts in them. If you continue with binders, use your locker to only have to carry one or two binders at a time. Then, have one "homework folder" and put all of your homework for the night in it. That way, you can avoid having to lug a load of useless paper home and back every day.

Good luck...
