I know, it sucks doesn't it. I've actually had bad enough cramps that I've had to be takent o the hospital. A good way to prevent them is to take one advil every 4 hours like a day before you get it and just keep going like that until your through the first few days of it.

Yeah, cramps... suck.

I used to have really really bad ones. I've never been taken to the hospital, but it got to the point where I was missing 1-2 days of school a month because the pain was so intense I couldn't move.

I'd suggest talking to your doctor, or if you've got one yet, a gynecologist. They'll have a couple of different options you can choose from to deal with the problem.

For me, I tried a bunch of different presecription painkillers before my pediatrician and I finally gave up on them. Right now I'm doing "hormone therapy" aka taking birth control pills. They're working really nicely so far. I haven't had cramps in the past two months.

Lord, thank you for giving me someone else who understands me and my cramping woes.
P.S.- OP, if your cramps are painful, painkillers always work. Just make sure its acetaminophen instead of ibuprofen (which causes pain in the stomach/abdomen, where you already got enough already). Just make sure you don't overdose. Don't even ask how I know these medicinal names.
Hope your future crampings aren't as bad?

Also, Scarleteen has an entire section on period related stuff. At the bottom of this page, there's some natural remedies (teas and stuff) mentioned that might help you.

I wonder if this is who I think it is. Seems likely enough. Hope there's some good advice you get on it, because I know I would be completely unable to help you on this one.

I know one guy who is not as afraid of mentruation and stuff as a lot of other guys. For Halloween he dressed as the superhero THe. PMS Avenger That takes some balls. Anyways, I get really bad cramps and I get terrible migraines that last for days on end and I get really fat because all that I can handle eating is ice cream. I think my doc is going to put me on birth control. Oh jeez.

I had a friend who was put on birth control in the eighth grade because she, like sithgirl, had such bad cramps that she had to miss school every month. I believe she passed out because of them more than once. Post-birth-control? All better. What a wonder little pills can be...

I've fainted in bathroom stalls because of the cramping. Taking about 4 Ibuprofin works for me (the doctor says it's totally okay, that's not enough to OD, in fact- it's just the right amount to ease period pain). Midol so doesn't work.

^Yeah, Midol is useless on me. As were most general painkillers and even the perscription ones. Why? because I have something like what Sithgirl has, except instead of fainting, I threw up. Alot. But the pain would come on suddenly, about an hour before my period started. This means I got no warning to take the pain killers before the pain started, but I couldn't take them afterwards because I would just throw them up. Like so many other girls, I got put on the pill to manage it and guess what: pain free. Well, not completely. But now I can take advil or aleve to get rid of the 'normal' intensity cramps.

Sometimes I wish I had such bad menstrual cramps that I'd have a logical, medical reason to be put on birth control, just so I could have that extra measure of protection without my mother wondering why I'd be worried about preventing pregnancy.
