Today I realized the true extent of how much being on your period affects you.

My dad picked me up from this meeting I had and I was crampy and irritable and quiet. Of course, he chooses this time to ask if I had decided what I want to do with my life. And then gave me a sermon when I told him that the reason i didn't want to go to [State School] was because 60% of my school is going to be there.

OF COURSE that isn't the only reason.

God, fucker. I hate it when guys, or parents, don't understand a simple concept known as TIMING.

Oh, how inconsiderate. Your father wants to get to know you better.

You'll be having your period for a rather large part of your life. It's your responsibility to not let it take control of you. I hate when girls use that as an excuse for being bitchy.

"It's your responsibility to not let it take control of you."

You have ABSOLUTELY no idea what pms/periods do to our mental state. We're sorry if we're temporarily bitchy and mentally unstable but most of the time we honestly can't help it.

OP, I sympathize with you! not about being on a period, but because my parents are in love with public school because it's cheap...

I am free from concern. I will get a loan and be a pauper forever if need be...

I'm sorry you had this incident with you father, but I don't think its becuase you were on your period. I really am in about the same mood as I would be on 4 hours of sleep. Its not THAT bad.

anon 5, everyone reacts differenty to their period. Just becuase you feel the same as if you only got 4 hrs of sleep, doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way.

When you have cramps, you feel like shit, and are automatically cranky. It is like when you have a stomach ache, except this happens on a monthly basis.

I would be hesitant to blame pms on so many things, at least not without examining how our society views it. Since America seems to think that women are always, and necessarily, irritable during their periods... it's only right that all women follow suit... ?

I think it's important to understand what's really going on here, and how much of it is merely due to conventions; sexist conventions, I might add. Giving into the idea that on their period women "cannot control their emotions" is really just as bad as the male chauvinists who blew it out of proportion in the first place.

Oh, I have cramps alright. I had to be taken to the hospital once when I was 13 becuase they used to be so bad. All I'm saying, is that you shouldn't blame your own lack of control/sense on your period. Just like when I don't get enough sleep, I know to be careful abut what I let out of my mouth.
