Well, most of my friends drink and smoke pot, and I kind of hate it. I mean, they understand why I don't, but all the same, they won't stop. There is some sort of line between being "chill", and being illegal, right?

This will go on most of your life. At least they haven't moved onto harder stuff yet. There's really nothing you can do but keep yourself from giving in to the pressure.

Pot I would stay away from, but you'll actually be doing yourself a favor I think if you teach yourself to drink responsibly before you get to college.

Honestly, I'd go for pot over alcohol. But stay away from both if you can help it.

I know what you mean, man. Some of my underage friends drink moderately because they like the taste of beer, and that's okay, but others get wildly drunk and act like idiots. They try to tell me it's all right because they're not driving, but when you're 17 and getting drunk every weekend, something's wrong with your life. Something's also probably wrong with your liver.

I would make it politely clear to your friends that you don't feel comfortable when they drink and smoke, and make a point of leaving the conversation or gathering when they begin doing so. Either they'll learn to stop doing it around you, they'll stop doing it all together, or you'll find people you like who don't smoke and drink. Behavioral conditioning--it can work pretty well.

Face it, you're with the wrong crowd. They're not going to change their ways for you, either. When it comes to drugs or friends, they'll choose the drugs.

Since you're smarter than that, and a better friend than that, find some new friends who deserve you and will appreciate you.
