So I finally mustered the courage to tell him I liked him, and, well, turns out he doesn't like me. In fact, he's been avoiding me ever since I told him. I'm not sure we'll even be friends again? Wow, this sucks.

That almost exact situation happened to me a year ago. Today, we are friends again, very good friends. I'm not sure he knows I still like him but it is a million times better. Hopefully your guy will get over it like mine did. Boys just need to grow up a little! Everything will be ok.

Excuse me, but having a girl tell you out of the blue that they like you like that is awkward. End of story.
Who doesn't enjoy that kind of attention? It shouldn't stay awkward for long, just don't try to force things on him and be content as friends.
I can see why that would be awkward for him, and how it must be terrible for you. Hopefully you'll both work around it and end up as friends again, even if it may feel a little weird at first.
I'm so, so sorry, because I completely understand. It takes time but things will mellow out and it won't be such a big deal anymore. Until then, try to fill your life with other things, other people, that give you joy.
