I have this incredible guilt of having the advantage of being born to an educated upper middle class family in the most affluent country in the world. I feel that if i don't make the best use of the advantages that have been dealt to me, i will be the worst kind of failure.

It's not your fault where you were born, if you don't do anything you're merely mediocre, not the worst kind of failure.

You're not a failure. Period.

If you feel bad about not being the most outstanding person in a massively competitive society, you'll constantly be dissappointed.

Live your life to fulfill your dreams and desires, not those of people who influence you.

I'd agree with you, except that when you think about it, life is life and really, it goes on whether or not we consider ourselves failures. So basically, do what makes you feel happy. if that includes working hard to make the world a better place and therefore not being a failure, that's cool. If it involves using up your life savings living on a beach writing a novel that will never be published, that's cool too.

To the directly previous person:

I won't argue with your opinion, because it's just that - yours. On the other hand, your grammer and syntax are abismal.

As to my opinion, I agree mostly with the second poster... Live your life how you'll feel most fulfilled. There's no point to constantly setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

I'd like to disagree with all of you. If you live a life that "makes you happy," then you'll be happy, but complete failures can still be happy.
