Don't be his friend, that's absolutely disgusting. If people who beat their significant others didn't have any friends or any respect from anyone I think there would be quite a lot less.
Don't be his friend if you don't want to. It's as simple as that. Don't make yourself vunerable again if you don't think you can handle it.
