I wont get into the college I want (duke) only because of my SAT scores.
fuck standardized tests.

If you have some sort of disability that keeps you from being able to easily take standardized tests, then I'm very sorry for you.
BUT, if you've only taken it once (or maybe twice without significant studying to improve) you're being lazy.
And if you fall under neither of these categories I honestly believe you don't deserve to go to Duke. There is a certain caliber of people expected to go to these universities, and basic writing skills, algebra and geometry, and reading comprehension are a part of that.
I probably haven't taken other things into account, but I'm sure someone will enlighten me as to what they are.
If Rashi can do it, anyone can do it IMO.
Honestly though, SAT's easy. If you have a disability, swallow your pride and get it diagnosed. Heaven knows they misdiagnose pretty much any person who asks if you look around enough, so you could even try to get extra stuff if you don't need it.
Don't fuck standardized tests, everybody takes them. You will get every STD known to man.

And what the fuck is that supposed to mean? I got a 2190 on my SAT, took 8 AP tests, all of which I got a 4 or 5 on, had a GPA of 4.96. Are you saying I'm not qualified academically?
I think someone's jealous that they're in Chapel Hell.
and p.s. Duke cares WAY more about your grades than your SAT scores.
Most colleges don't overly look at SAT scores. Grades + level of classes taken + how you did in them + class rank + extra cirriculars = more important than 1 or 2 sat mornings...I think more and more universities are saying this. Also if you're well qualified other than not quite perfect SAT scores..you prolly still have a good chance. That is assuming that you didn't get a 1600 or something.
It's not that I don't think you're SMART, Rashi; I just never thought you were that impressive of a college candidate. It was all based on my estimate of you, which isn't that great. Your test scores are passable, I guess.
I'm not jealous, per se; I chose a full ride at Chapel Hill over full tuition at Duke. Maybe jealous of your parents' generosity?
Too bad your basketball team sucks, your social scene sucks, and no one parties on ninth street on Halloween.
Oh, and have fun camping out for tickets. I'll think of you in your tent while I click the "apply for basketball lottery" from the comfort of Chapel Hell. :)
i love standardized tests; they're one of the main reasons i'll get into a good college :]
yay national merit!
wow, so much bitterness. I thought all you admins were supposed to be friends...

Waa waa waa. I guess it's a good thing you weren't evaluating me then, wasn't it?

Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
1. Our basketball team has been beating the teams it was supposed to beat by the amount (or more) than it was supposed to beat them by. Not only has Carolina not done that, but they haven't even been tested against a real team.
2. I guarantee you that Duke parties are WAY better than their Chapel Hill counterparts. Case and point: our frat parties are open to the public. We don't need dates.
3. Whereas I will give you that Franklin Street is way better than 9th Street, we do go party on Franklin on Halloween. In fact, Duke charters buses to take us there.
And about camping for tickets...it shows devotion. Way more than clicking and praying ever will. Not to mention that it's a two month long party.
And to the poster above me. My beef isn't with Hannah or any of the other admins. It's with this anonymous asshole that thinks I'm not qualified. Maybe they should consider the number of people that get into Duke because Daddy runs a Fortune 500. If you're not in either that group or the athletes, you're pretty damn sure qualified.
And finally, back to the original point of this post, if the OP would be so kind as to post his/her SAT scores, we might have a better idea as to their chances.
I agree with anon2...not only would the STD's be bad, but it would be positively painful...paper cuts, anyone?
Maybe fucking Duke would be a better idea....
don't need dates = can't get dates?
:D
Maybe I should rephrase that.
At Carolina, if you're a girl, it is very easy to get into frat parties, because they want to get you drunk and date rape you.
If you're a guy, it is much harder to get in if you aren't a brother.
At Duke, on the other hand, everyone gets in to the parties, and they're a more enjoyable experience.
Okay, good point. Question: how did your basketball team do tonight?
back to the original POST PURPOSE (AHEM):
i got 680 reading, 630 math, 620 writing with 11 on the essay.
i also got a 780 on spanish subject and a 650 on math 2. I did horrible on the lit subject test (i'm embarrassed to even post it anonymously) but I just hope they will just take into account the top two sat IIs since thats all they ask for. thats what colleges do right?
ON THE OTHER HAND...i'm top 20 at enloe with a a 5.02 GPA. i've taken like 15 AP classes and my extra curriculars are so solid as are my essays. i also have two siblings at duke.
and hannah: regardless of tonight...beware of duke basketball this season.
I may be wrong, but that doesn't sound so bad (to me, at least). I mean, those scores aren't in the middle 50% of students accepted to Duke, but they aren't completely lousy or anything.
Also, if you have 2 siblings at Duke, that will help A LOT.
So you suck at taking standardized tests, but everything else is good. Oh, and you're a legacy.
Tell me your obstacle again?
Those scores aren't terrible, and you may have a shot at getting into Duke with your grades, but they are certainly going to hurt your chances.
How many times did you take the SAT?
Just because you're regular scores weren't the best doesn't mean you don't have a chance. They do consider a log more than SAT scores after all. They won't dismiss you on one fault, especially since you have done so much in other areas. There's always time to take it again. Don't fret.
