A rumor is out that my best friend's boyfriend cheated on her with me. From what I understand 3 people claimed they saw us hooking-up at a bar together (we went w/ a group of people, not just the two of us alone). Albeit we did have our arms around each other and I know that was inappropriate, even we meant innocently; so I see how in a dark bar that could of been misinterpreted. I just feel horrible because because I don't know if any of us will ever be friends again.

Guess I just want some advice...

Do your best to spread the truth. Whenever confronted with the rumor, tell the person from whom you heard it the real story. Ideally, you and your best friend are close enough that you can tell her what happened directly. It'll be a relief for both of you.

The group you went with should be able to confirm that nothing happened between the two of you, if that's necessary which I don't think it should be.

What kind of best friend inappropriately has their arms around their boyfriend? She'll probably be better off without you.

I think having an arm around someone is still within the bounds of friendliness; it seems dramatic to say that's actually something worth breaking a friendship over.

Tell her the truth. Her real problem is with HIM, if she doubts you.

Is there a reason she is so suspicious? Has something happened to her in the past or with him?
