In psychology today, we were talking about how a century ago, girls my age (almost 17) were considered spinsters if they weren't married or engaged to be married.
I've always considered myself to be a staunch feminist in the modern, independent woman way, but I can't help feeling as if I'd like my life to be that settled and determined. Uncertainty bothers me.
With all the stress involved in AP exams, senior year schedules, and the ever increasing work load of junior year I've often wished I lived a several decades earlier so I wouldn't have to deal with any of this.

You probably aren't in the same period though.
You know, I'm sort of the same way. One one hand, it's really cool to have all these opportunities to look forward to, but sometimes I just want to go hide behind some guy and let them do all the work.
My mother would probably kill me if I ever uttered that to her.

I have the same feeling sometimes; it's been increasing since I've accquired a boyfriend. On the one hand, it's great to be independent and liberated, but on the other, I kind of like the idea of being a housewife who cooks and mends and has kids. It would give me a legitimate reason not to take two-period AP Calc next year, that's for sure.
Wow. As the guy that posted an almost identical topic right below this one, we should totally talk.
I envision being a teacher (how stereotypically female can I GET?) and then becoming a housewife and a mother. Honestly. I'm happy with this decision. And still, I will be taking four AP (one two-period) and two honors classes next year. And still, I will have a class rank in the top 50. And still, I will be an overachiever. And still, I will feel best when I'm held in -his- arms.
I think I'm some sort of paradox between female social independence and female social regression.

That's angry, rashi. Hippies, like Doc Woollen, have jobs making big money. Hippies grew up, had kids (not Doc), and are about to retire. They made more money than any generation ever. Hold your criticism, please.
The hippies aren't about to retire, but the generation they were born into is.
Honestly, if you think Doc earns "big money," your life is poor in experience.

In the USA, we call it "unemployment benefits" and it lasts 6 months, cut and dried.
