Just a little public opinion poll: What do you guys think should be included in the teacher and administration portions of the soon to be Enloe Honor Code?

I don't think aything should be included at all for teachers. All you could say are things like "religious tolerance" or "historical nuetrality" that will have the anal teachers walking on eggshells and the normal ones ignoring it (like all students are bound to). The more we add to this thing, the more restrictions we come up with, the less legitimate it becomes.

how about something saying that teachers shouldn't put students in rediculously hard or unreasonable positions where they would be tempted to act dishonorable. i mean, most teacher's ask reasonable things of their students, but i mean, not all of them, some teachers leave you with almost no choice but to act dishonorably.

the honor code should require nkteachers to act consistently

Nothing really, aside from the fact that some don't take credit for late stuff. There are provisions for extenuating circumstances by the upper administration, but not at that level. I think late work should always be accepted within a reasonable time, with the teacher's point deductions decided by then. Even if it's a 90 point deduction, the student doesn't feel as though the effort was in vain and it was recognized that he/she did the work.

I don't know about you, but I've never really been put in a rediculous situation before...

maybe one or two ridiculous ones.

But seriously, a lot of these nitpicky things like point deductions on late work doesn't really sounds like "honor code" material...then again maybe this "honor code" is just another host of rules.

I agree that teachers should be consistent, at least ones that teach the same subject. For example, the AP World History teacher. If you get Merg, you are pretty much assured an A, while if you get Doc or Johnson, you have to work a whole lot harder.

Fuck the honor code. I cheat and I still will after it is created.

In my day, having Doc was an assured A. Have things really changed?

The administration must engage themselves in the every-day learning enviornment. Administrators all too often hide in their closets. They cannot be found. They can't answer questions. In short, who's in charge?

Well, personally, I did not have him for APWH, though I heard that getting an A was almost impossible, and as he posted grades for all to see, there were very few, and a lot of C's.

On a slight tangent, teachers who post grades in the hallowed hallways of our dear Enloe suck.

The grades are generally posted by NCWISE number, which lends itself too well to identity theft and the comprimise of personal data on school nets. This wouldn't happen if only it was common knowledge how to use the utilities to change passwords, etc.

Not cool.

Anyway, back to previous topic, apparently this year's kids are having a harder time with all the APWH teachers. It seems to me like they figured out how to teach AP over the summer :-)

I think we should use the honor code to try to outlaw teachers.

Ha. Ha. HA. No, times have not changed doc is still an easy A, as long as he likes you. Just if you're on his bad side, you're screwed.
