I've noticed that certain immensely popular posts have been left off of the tangst popularity hall of fame. /Hm, I wonder why?/ Nonetheless I demand an explanation from our moderators. We should keep it fresh in our minds if only to prevent that kind of fiasco from happening again.

I propose that the number of posts required to get on the popular posts list be bumped up to 20 or even 25, considering the site's growing popularity. (woohoo!)
I don't think I can completely summarize the lack of updates, other than to say "change is in store."
There's going to be some new ways of handling the archiving system, among other things, and the Popular Posts module will be removed eventually. That's the best reason for not updating the module.
For a good explanation of changes Heather wrote earlier, check out the "Tangst News" on the sidebar. It's http://tangstblog.blogspot.com/ if you're too lazy to click "Back" ;-)
However, the Popular Posts will be updated momentarily per the above complaint :-)
The reason behind that is I'm working on a new navigation system. "Popular Posts" is obsolete now that there are so many comments to every post (increased traffic = increased posting + increased commenting). If I kept up-ing the number of comments a post needed to be "popular" the older ones would be excluded automatically because there weren't that many posters originally. If I kept things the way there are right now, the sidebar would get incredibly long and that would be ridiculous.
Right now there are a couple of posts that were left off, not just that one in particular I believe you're talking about. So really, don't worry about it. Everything gets fixed eventually.
Also, I think everyone's a bit sick of that post. It's staying off the sidebar and won't appear there except under the new system.
Additionally, I'd like to remind everyone that "demands" go to the Tangst blog or e-mail.
And I seriously doubt that adding the post to the sidebar would "keep it fresh in our minds if only to prevent that kind of fiasco from happening again." If anything it'd give people a chance to be less lazy and not have to dig through the archives to find it to comment on. It'd ADD to the madness, not reduce it.
True, true.
Seriously? Yeesh. That seems a bit harsh and authoritarian, don't you think? It's not like continuing the discussion is going to hurt anybody...well...physically.
I hereby rescind the part of my comment where I mentioned updating the module.
In being trumped by the Admin Heather through the preceeding discussion, the aforementioned 'massive post' has been removed from the sidebar.
How the hell is that harsh and authoritarian? All it is is me not wanting to have to delete more when we make the system change. I hate screwing with the page design. The less I have to do, the better.
And it's not like I shut off the comment option, I'm just leaving it off the main page.
P.S. If I were really harsh and authoritarian, I'd close down the site while I was doing maintenance instead of working around the schedules of everyone else ;)
It's really not harsh guys. Period.
And, to put the design/module updates into context for people:
Tangst has way over 300 submissions now. Each of those has a collection of comments contained on a "Permanent Link" static page. Every time you make a change to the design template (read: sidebar modules) of the site, you have to wait while Blogger republishes all of those pages. That takes a while, especially on a larger blog like Tangst.
The new system and design (from my understanding) will not have to be updated like that.
Its just more convenient not to have to update something like the Popular Posts module :-)
"the aforementioned 'massive post' has been removed from the sidebar."
I meant this part.
Thank you guys for putting so much work and dedication into this site. You have no idea how much it means to some of us.
The final call for site design changes and updates is with Heather right now. That's just the way its been established.
Since her comment and mine were written at roughly the same time, without one of us seeing the other's, I take it not as censorship, but as a policy decision established prior to my comment. That's how it was intended in the first place, and that's how I chose to rescind my action.
Besides that, my earlier post making the retraction was not an announcement of harsh censors. It carried a humorous undertone and overly flamboyant language. I did not owe the site a retraction notice, nor was it censorship. I was merely making a joke with regards to the situation.
I henceforth extend my deepest and most sincere apologies to any and all anonymous patrons of this esteemed blog for any past wrongdoing with regards to my linguistical ploys. I shall endeavor to refrain from such deviousness in the future.
