eh, its not so bad. just annoying to have to worry about.

pads feel like diapers. you'll grow to prefer tampons.

why?

I was terrified of tampons when I was eleven. I got over it pretty quick when I got my period at my friend's beach house.

and yes, I agree that pads feel like diapers. ick. panty liners are acceptable, though.

my suggestions? just read the box and follow the instructions, and if it feels really awful, start over. if it feels semi-awful, then it's normal - it's always kind of weird the very first time.

It takes practice. The first few times you might not get it quite right, but you know you have it when you don't feel a thing when it goes in. Removal is a little bit more tricky.

Just work at it <3

i did get it in once. it was frightening though- the applicator got stuck in me and i had to stick 3 fingers in there to get it out, which was a scary experience. i was scared to try it after that. recently i braved it and tried again and it wouldn't go through the hole.
pads aren't that bad i guess. i'm used to how they feel. it's just bad when i have to go swimming or something- i always have to skip it.

Tampons are the best invention besides antibiotics and brith control. If you are having trouble, try the plastic ones. Even though they are bad for the environment, they go in a lot smoother.

^Because it's not like electricity, the printing press, or the wheel were that important.

yea trust me, try it until you get right. you'll love tampons. i havent met a girl unless she got like TSS or something that hates tampons.

you can get like the tampons starter kit. its very encouraging and cute.

we're here for you op.

and LOL to anon7

^How many people have gotten TSS in the history of ever? I really want to know because I don't really worry if I leave mine in overnight.

Being conscious of hygene is one thing, but women who are outright afraid of their gentials need a reality check. I'm sure the parents are to blame, but how do these girls expect to have a satisfying sex life later on if they're absolutely terrified of their own body?

TSS is pretty rare, but when it does happen it can be fatal and has some really awful symptoms with it.

can't be too careful. don't leave one in for more than 8 hours or so is basically my policy.

To the Anon 2 above:

She said nothing about being afraid of her genitals, she is afraid of introducing a new element to her body that she is not yet comfortable with. This has absolutely nothing to do with sex or being "terrified" of her body.

I'll bet you a million dollars you're a boy.

Maybe I'd be more worried about TSS if I could actually get a tampon in? For now, I'm more worried about actually getting them in than TSS.
What I'm looking for is: advice as to how to use them, what brand should I use maybe? And should I use applicators, if so, what kind?
If all else fails, I guess I'll just use pads. They're not too bad, just a bit annoying because they make me feel gross. I'm used to how they feel by now.

tampax.com

when I started using them I went to beinggirl.com its a cute helpful little site.

The most comfortable are tampax pearl.
tampax satin is also comfortable to put in.

maybe you should talk to your mom about this?

Yeah, use plastic applicators. Then move to cardboard if you're comfortable, they are better for the environment. Don't try an applicator-less one without a lot of practice with tampons first. I dunno, I started by using Kotex Security just because that's what my mom gave me, and they work fine. I don't really like Tampax Pearl, the applicators just seem to skinny.

I started with tampons that didn't have applicators. It took some practice but they are better for the environment.

I like tampax, too, and the Pearl ones. Plastic applicators, because they're easier to insert. I usually insert it at a bit of an angle, and you can feel it settle into the area between the two muscles. You won't even be able to tell it's there if you do it right. Go find a woman's health book around your house, your mom should have one. Actually, you should have one, but if you're so terrified of tampons, it's doubtful. Read that, it should give good tips. And pictures.
