I thought Rashi's article in the newspaper today was almost completely ridiculous.
Saying the women make good "homemakes and commitee leaders" is such a generalization. Sure, there are women who are good at those things. There are men who are good at them too. Also, to say that women shouldn't be president becuase we are more likely to have personality disorders is completely irrelevant. Men are much more likely to kill someone, does that mean they shouldn't be president? Personally, I'd rather have a bi-polar president than a murderer. It's true, you did list many women who are in political power right now who would be unfit to be president - but that doesn't mean no woman should ever be president! Who knows who'll come along? Also to generalize all women as not having sufficient "charisma or popularity " makes me question the quality of the women in your life. Basically, it's impossible to say that no woman ever would make a good presdent, especially in comparison to the one in office now.
With that said Rashi, I did think you had a valid point in terms of middle east relations. I agree that a woman leader would probably not be taken as seriously as a man, and that's a sad thing. Still, I don't think that's a sufficient reason to say a woman would make a poor president.

Maybe I should just come out and say this now:
I wrote that article as a joke. While I do believe a very limited amount of it in very limited degrees, I harbor no ill feelings towards women, nor do I believe that a woman would make a bad president. Those of you who have been in classes with me know that I am more than willing to take ridiculous stances and say outrageous things just to stir people up. I find it amusing.
So please, read this as a joke. I was not being serious. So laugh a little and rejoice at the end of a long, hard year.
Eagle's Eye - May 2006
See page 4 for the debate discussed here.
Thank God you weren't serious.
That scared me for a second.
SOCIAL HISTORY!!!
I was talking to Tizzy after school today, and we both agreed you should have written "women's history sucks" inside your DBQ/essay packet that she took with her.
Just to see if anyone really cares.
uhm...
you should have said it was a joke. no one thinks it was a joke. like anyone at the school..
there are a lot of people rashi that hate you right now.
Most guys are quiet about this but we actually agree with the article. You won't get us to admit it when you badger us but we won't vote for a woman as our nations leader. And suggested that you would rather have someone in office who is bi-polar instead of one who had killed a man is really quite stupid.
Anon3, you kidding? Maybe that's your opinion, but personally, I'd vote for a woman in a heartbeat. As long as she was a good candidate built on strong and reasonable views. Like any other one should be.
Duh. Learn2Vote.
Whew, I'm glad it was a joke. Sorry for the rant then, but I enraged. Maybe next time, you oughtta put something at the end of the article enlightening your reader to the fact that you "got 'em". Anyway, thanks for telling us all you were kidding, sorry for the hate post - no hard feelings.
I thought about putting something at the end, or maybe at the beginning instead of my flame shield paragraph, but then I figured it would ruin any semblance of argument. It's just not good persuasive writing. Haha. I guess I should have, though.
Rashi, I got it. And it was hilarious. I'm a guy though, so you're still screwed. You may want to bring a real shield to school tomorrow.
even if it wasnt a joke it doesnt mean that he supports it. In a debate you argue for a side but it doesnt mean you necessarily agree with the side your arguing for.
anon 3 your an idiot most. I would vote for a canadite based on his or hers policies not gender. most guys would vote for a women if she was a good choice.
Middle Eastern leaders have already and continue to sit down with female politicians -- Secretaries of State Condi Rice and Madeline Albright.
And Primise Minister Margaret Thatcher.
I love that fact that that article was writen. I like that we have the freedom of press here in this contry and I like that we can use it as we'd like. Rashi's got balls for writing that at all, even if it was a joke and I don't agree with it.
Every female at Enloe will be after Rashi's balls for writing it as well.
Somehow I doubt any girl would want those.
Ha, sorry Rashi, I couldn't resist.
that article is clear proof of why rashi doesn't have a girlfriend, nor will ever get one at enloe.
OUCH!
That was a little harsh.
Actually a lot.
Indeed. Although to be honest, I don't think I would want to date a girl who was truly offended/not at all amused by this.
And I would certainly hope that an article that was meant to be a joke is not the only reason I don't have a girlfriend. That seems a little ridiculous.
I wish people would stop bothering Rashi about this. I mean, read the comments. It's a joke, and a fairly good one. Just read the article. There's obviously a humorous tone in parts.
Besides, someone had to write the "against" side - Rashi is just one of the few people willing to argue anything, no matter how ridiculous it is, no matter how much he doesn't even believe in parts of what he wrote. In debate, there are stances that are argued even though no one actually believes them. This is a really good example of that.
And besides, of someone actually harms him over this, it'd be proving one of his points.
women diss men all the time and we take it laying down. why must we pay for the food and walk the dog. why must men suffer under the opressive higheel of women? why? WE are expected to ask out the girl and pay for the date but women demand social equality. Well you already have it.
^
As a guy, I feel perfectly comfortable saying... you have no fucking clue what you're saying.
"... take it laying down."
Really, I'd prefer if you were LYING down.
Thanks.
even though its a "joke", it doesn't mean that rashi still doesn't believe in it, because many people say that he talks about women like that all the time.
"and he ended up being kicked in the balls!
Just goes to show ya, DON'T MESS WITH WOMEN! WE KNOW YOUR WEAKNESSES!"
This is freaking unacceptable. /Haha a man in severe pain with a chance of longterm damage. How hilarious/ What are you, five?
because many people say that he talks about women like that all the time.
Obviously you didn't hear the rest then. Nor have you ever actually heard me talk about women in this way. It is always, always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS jokingly. Now get off my back and laugh a little.
^Exactly. The ridiculous look on his face gives him away.
Also, attacking people based on hearsay is intolerable.
Rashi, I'm a girl and I thought it was hilarious. I would still date you.
