One C and I'm now screwed.

Anonymous said...

i got my first C ever this time. i'm completely dissappointed in myself, and i'm afraid to show it to my mom. knowing her, she'll freak out even though my brother is Failing math, and she just tells him to get help after class. it sucks to have a record of getting really good grades.

Whoa...we have, like, the same grades OP...except I was getting an A in English but...recently found out that I don't understand poetry. At all. And that was my C. *emotear*

i was absent last week and (thank GOD quarter grades don't go on your permanent record in colorado!!) my teachers entered zeros for all the assignments i missed instead of just not counting them. stupid shithead teachers.

I'm just very, very proud of myself for bumping my grade in one very tough class over the margin from the long-standing B to an A this quarter. Even if I get a B next quarter and it's a B for the year, I will be happy with that grade.

TintedFragipan said...

Ouch, two honors courses? I had expected better from PChis.

For shame, sir. For shame.

You had better not get those B's! That would be instant death. (haha, Japanese IV, haha)

" you people who go to enloe set WAY to high standards..."

that was me and i was only saying it because at least where i come from a "B" is definetly not a grade that parents would ground kids over, ESPECIALLY in an AP/H class, that was the only point i was trying to make, and i do care about what the world like, just F.Y.I.

Everyone at Enloe always talks about how hard it is compared to other schools...but how would you know unless you spent a good amount of time in other schools...do you even have an IB program?

Anonymous said...

Hell yes we have an IB program.

Have you even read the other posts about Enloe?

numero-seis said...

just out of simple curiosity, is enloe a private school?

Anonymous said...

Of course I have read the other posts about Enloe. But...just because you have a rigorous school how do you know that someone who gets Cs at your school could easily get As in others?(Someone said in a post in the past.)

Enloe is a fully public high school located in Raleigh, North Carolina. For years, it has been nationally ranked between 40th and 50th among all high schools in America. It supports a student body of around 2500, and sports a wide range of opportunities, such as the accredited IB Programme and dozens of AP-certified subjects supported by dozens of faculty credited with Ph.D's and National Board certifications.

Enloe has dropouts. Enloe has drug issues. Enloe has true failures. Enloe has poor traditional sports teams (football, for example). Enloe doesn't receive much funding. The Wake County Public School System, though one of the highest-paying in the state, allots meager sums for faculty salaries.

The cream of Enloe's crop (top 100 or so) earn weighted GPA's of 4.5 or higher by the close of Junior year. The next hundred places down in rank extend to GPA's of approximatly 3.5. Average Junior and Senior class size ranges between 450 and 600, depending on the dropout rates.

The kids who get slightly lower grades in the most advanced courses under the best teachers at Enloe could easily earn A's at other schools, given their current work capacities.

In reference to the anonymous above, he or she exaggerates Enloe's merits.

Enloe is ranked in the top 40 or 50 among PUBLIC high schools in America, not among all high schools in America. Furthermore, the ranking is determined by what I consider to be a flawed system: the number of AP tests taken divided by the number of graduating seniors in a class, to form an "index rating." Schools in newsweek are then ranked by their index rating.

The ranking takes no account of difficulty of individual classes, the amount of A's earned, or the creativity and talent of the student body.

Enloe's not that great. People want an excuse for why they suck.

Anonymous said...

Dude, the index rating doesn't even take into account how many of those AP exams were PASSED. A marker of how much self-confidence (which could be falsely placed) and money a school has. Not a good indicator of its overall greatness.

TintedFragipan said...

Well, I still say it does (read the introduction carefully, SD?)

but even if you disagree, surely you agree that the ranking is worthless.

Anonymous said...

I agree, for certain aspects, that the ranking and index are invalid but that was only a small part of my description. I merely tried to present a few different perceptions of Enloe's image. On the other hand, I think you can hardly argue that Enloe offers a sub-par education Tinted. However, what you choose to make of that offering is a personal decision.
