I sing to myself as a distraction to make myself feel better. I do it all the time. Like instead of dwelling on the fact that I got a horrible grade on a test, I just hum to myself on the way to my next class, as if not thinking about it will make the problem go away.

That's probably a very good way to deal with stress; you have a healthy outlook on life. Sure, the problem of the test grade doesn't go away, but at least if you can sing on the way to your next class, you can concentrate in that class and do well there when you might have been bogged down unneccessarily by the grade.
I do that too! I don't not acknowledge the problem, but I don't dwell on it and get depressed either. Singing is a great way to feel better, even if you're tone-deaf like me :D
I hum to myself when anything happens. It bugs the craaaaap out of anyone around me. I also talk to myself in the hallways to pass the time- and it makes me feel better about everything!
