I disagree, being pessmistic or cynical leaves you either expecting the bad that happens, or pleasantly surprised when things go your way. Optimism is by no means a bad way to think about thing... I just can't do it.

If you're truly an optimist, bad things don't really happen so you're always pleasantly surprised at the good things you find.
I agree it's difficult, but being pessimistic really brings me down.
